Media Training Feedback from Canada's Olympians

Rowing Canada
July 1, 2008

After comprehensive Stellick Marketing Communications media training sessions, including on-camera interviews and a review of Beijing-related political issues, the men and women heading to Beijing to represent Rowing Canada had the following comments:

"I thought the session was great -- it was so good to have an expert in the field (the radio sports guy), who's been there and made the mistakes -- I found the two presenters worked really well off one another....

After speaking with some of the other girls, they agreed that it was extremely beneficial (particularly those that did NOT go to Ottawa for the Road to Excellence weekend -- where they had a similar presentation).... One of the veterans even said that it was the best media session she's ever attended... I think the "hot seat" was a great experience for all that partook in the 2nd half, too."

Darcy Marquardt (London)

"I definitely enjoyed it. I liked the fact that we could relate to them as both the media and people being hounded by the media, and sometimes even screwed by them! Anyway....they had lots of stories that we could relate to and overall I really liked it. It got me thinking a bit more about possible answers to questions that I may be asked. Seeing myself on camera was good too as it gave me a chance to review my response right away and feel a bit of pressure to provide good answers with the "audience" there. Mike (Spracklen, the coach) was positive about it as well....the biggest thing he thought we got out of it was that the Olympics are not very far off now and it is becoming more and more real with time running out."
